John is one of the Founders of bzinvestments. John began his career in I.T. and spent 10 years with ICL (now part of Fujitsu) where he became General Manager of Large Mainframes, which was the main profit generator of the ICL Group. In the mid 1980's John joined Plessey where he took on the directorship of Plessey's Public Telecoms Developments and when Plessey merged with GEC, John became Group Managing Director of the Network Systems Group.
This group of UK and International companies were focussed on Telecoms transmission systems and cable. From GPT (now Marconi), John spent 2 years with BT with responsibility for BT's network across the UK. Immediately prior to bzinvestments, John was Managing Partner of Mentor International a $30m revenue consultancy focussed on Telecoms and IT where clients included major telcos, banks, venture capital companies and other high tech organisations. John was one of two equity owners in Mentor and sold his equity to a VC backed MBO.
John is now an investor in 5 other businesses ranging from software, telecoms, manufacturing and engineering as well as advising a number of private equity firms.
Director and Chief Analyst
Andrew's main responsibility at Nakono is to define and lead the company’s research activities.
Including over 20 years operational experience in the technology sector, Mr Sheehy's professional repertoire encompasses product development in the fields of RF & microwave electronics and software, telecoms product management, market research and new venture development.
In former years, Andrew has held the positions of Principal Engineer at Nortel Networks, Senior Product Manager at Telstra New Zealand and Director of Product Management at the WiMax vendor, PipingHot Networks, which became Orthogon Systems and, having been acquired by Motorola in 2007 was subsequently divested to become what is now Cambium Networks.
Mr Sheehy holds a B.Sc. (Hons) degree in Electronics from Salford University and an MBA degree from London Business School.
Senior Software Developer
Rich is responsible for the software infrastructure at Nakono. His remit encompasses design and development of proprietary software used for business-to-business communication, ensuring the smooth daily running of the company's IT systems and research on software in the field of information retrieval.
Rich joined the team in 2008 after receiving a Bachelors’ degree in Computing from Plymouth University. He also holds a Diploma in Engineering Pathways. Prior to joining us, Rich worked in Systems Deployment & Special Projects for Plymouth City Council in the United Kingdom.
Lead Web Developer
Mark's professional web development career started in the late 90's after studying for his HND in Computing & IT. Already a seasoned web designer in his spare time, he started his web development career by working on a project to build one of the UK's first, major Online Real Estate portals, funded by TownPages.
He has since worked as lead developer on several large projects for the travel industry (Gold Medal Travel) and beauty market, and as development consultant for many Internet startups.
Sara brings 15 years experience of working in information management and market research. Sara’s professional repertoire is based on extensive research experience spanning multiple sectors including investment banking, management consultancy, telecoms engineering and retail. Prior to joining us, Sara worked for several years as a researcher at Boston Consulting Group, Lazard and Verdict Research.
Sara holds a BA (Hons) degree in Modern Languages from Oxford University.
Dr. Dave Taylor
Dr Dave Taylor has been a professional researcher and writer for 20 years. With skills gained in the analysis of environmental policy while working towards his PhD thesis, he worked for environmental Non Governmental Organisations for several years.
Subsequently, Dr Taylor has pursued broader fields of research and has worked for a Select Committee in the House of Commons and been Editor of a Financial Times newsletter. In recent years Dave has combined his passion for small-scale farming with a career supporting policy development in local government.
Following a very belated "gap year" spent travelling the world in 2010, Dr Taylor has returned to the UK and is now further developing his knowledge of digital technology and the internet with Nakono.
Anju has been involved in business research for over 11 years. She completed her MBA in finance in 2007 and has extensive experience across financial analysis, forecasting, business & competitive intelligence, data management and analysis. Anju has had exposure across various industries including, amongst others, mobile, telecoms and media.
In her previous assignment Anju was responsible for the management of custom research projects, including scoping research projects, defining research methodologies and team management.
